The Delights Of Teaching

"You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourselves" (Rom. 2:21)?

I spent almost my entire adult life (35 years of it) as a public school teacher. I enjoyed all 35 years. I knew going in that I would never get rich, at least not in monetary terms. As I look back, I truly believe that this is what God wanted me to do with my life. I believe He still wants me to teach but on a different level. I think that on some level, we are all to be teachers.

The real joy in teaching comes from the fruit born in others. Note the great joy experienced by the apostle John; "It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell me about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth"

3 John 3&4). John is talking here about people that he had taught the truth of Jesus Christ. Hearing that they were still walking in the truth allowed him to experience great joy. Note the joy experienced by Paul; "We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thess. 1:3). Note here that Paul is remembering the faith, love, and joy in those that those in Thessalonica were exhibiting. Why? Because he had taught them

There is perhaps no greater joy than seeing, one that you have taught succeed. The great joy of seeing the fruit of our teaching. The joy of seeing people grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. I know! I know! Some of you are saying, "I'm just not cut out for teaching." Maybe this is true in a formal way, but there are many ways to get a message across. We have a sign in front of our church building that faces two directions. We try to put some "eye catching" phrase on it each week. This week one side of the sign reads, "Where love is seen, the message is heard." The other side says, "We must be good news, before we can tell the good news." If in no other way, we can teach others by what they see in our lives.

More about this the next few days....Have a great week...Make a difference...Be thankful in this season of Thanksgiving....Love mark Phil. 4:11
