Living Better

"Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice" (Phil.4:4).

We certainly live in a world that is designed for physical happiness. As we look about us at the "things" of life, we find them whether big or small, made to bring us some type of satisfaction. As I gaze at this computer, I realize the information that is at our fingertips. Do our kids know what an encyclopedia is? With all of this around us, why aren't people happier? Why are they living better, but not really living better?

Maybe it is the forest and the trees thing....You know, "we can't see the forest because of the trees." Maybe many in our society lose sight of the things of life that can bring real satisfaction. In Matthew 8, we find Peter walking on the water to Jesus. He did fine until his faith wavered. Our lives can be richer and fuller with a greater degree of faith. We may not walk on water, but we might walk straighter.

Encouraging words for doing the right things inspire us to do even better. One "atta boy" is worth more than a dozen "Oh how stupids." Think of how the Roman centurion must have been encouraged by Jesus' kind words in Matt.8:10. How good do you think the poor widow must have felt when Jesus talked about her generous gift in Matt. 12:41-44? We live better when we encourage those about us .

To Timothy, Paul said, "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity" (1 Tim. 1:12). We live better when we can serve as an example to others. The thought that we can have a positive effect on the lives of others through our walk along God's path should encourage us to live even better lives. The Christian is Christianity on display and should magnify Christ. (Phil.1:20)

I hope that your Thanksgiving Day is one of rejoicing....We do indeed have so much to be thankful for........Love mark Phil. 4:11
