Jesus' Birth - And More

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel----which means, 'God with us'" (Matt. 1:23).

Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier each year. I remember complaining that no sooner was Thanksgiving over that the Christmas season began. It seems like it starts after Halloween now. That notwithstanding, the season is here with the decorations, presents and the sound of Christmas carols. The birth of the Savior was foretold in many Old Testament scriptures. "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and you shall call his name Emmanuel" (Isa. 7:14).

Jesus came to earth to be more than a baby born in a cow-crib in Bethlehem. The name itself in Matthew and Isaiah tells it all.....Emmanuel....GOD WITH US! In the person of Jesus, God came to earth...GOD WITH US! More than the baby Jesus, He came to be our Savior. He came not only to be GOD WITH US but to be GOD IN US. "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people" (2 Cor. 6:16). Through God we come to know the Father. Not through the baby Jesus, but through the one Who "walked among us."

With the presence of Jesus in our lives, we have our needs met. In our loneliness He has promised, "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Heb. 13:5). When we need comfort, "through Christ our comfort overflows" (2 Cor.1:5). In fear, He is with us saying, "Peace I leave you with....Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27). If we think we are too weak to make it, we find these words, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor. 12:9).

Though the Christmas season will come and go each year, the Christ of Christmas is there for us each day. Not the baby in the manger, but Emmanuel....GOD WITH US......GOD IN US....In Jesus, we have the one who will dwell in us that, that we might dwell with Him.

Have a wonderful day and a Christmas season filled with the joy Of Christ....As we look at the Christmas lights around us, let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
