Love Thy Neighbor - If He Was Just Nicer

"And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"(Matt.22:38), (Lev.19:18).

It is an imperative that we get along with our fellow planet dwellers. Christ taught it as the second great commandment, just as it was part of the Old Law in Leviticus eighteen. Jesus took this to a new level however when He said. "A new command I give you: AS I HAVE LOVED YOU, so you must love one another"(John 13:34).(the caps are mine) In response to a question by an "expert in the law," as to who our neighbor is, Jesus taught the famous parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke ten. What a beautiful way to teach bring this lesson home. As we look at the parable and see the priest and Levite pass by on the other side of the road, what do we think about them? They have always gotten the bad rap, haven't they? They were more than likely good men, who were abhorred by what they saw. They probably were angry with the people that had perpetuated this terrible deed. Why we love the Samaritan is that he was moved to action. He showed compassion and mercy to someone he had never met.

Simply put, we must love our neighbors as ourselves. When we are hungry we feed ourselves, when cold cloth ourselves, when homeless try to get a home. Our neighbors are those who need.....Those who need mercy are our neighbors. He is not just the guy "next door."

After Jesus gave the new command in John 13:34, He said this in the very next breath, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." What a great way to be known!

Have a wonderful weekend..I hope that you have an uplifting and glorifying worship experience on His day....Love mark Phil. 4:11
