More Love - Love Your Brothers In The Lord

"Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply from the heart" (1Peter 1:22).

THE GREATEST COMMANDS
Love one another, for love is of God
He who loves is born of God and knows God.
He who does not love does not know God,
For God is love, God is love.

Words Traditional....

Peter tells us here not just to love the brotherhood, but to love it with fervor. I can always tell a visitor to our church who is involved with the work of their local congregation and interacts with love. It just exudes from them. You can tell that they are used to being with their brethren and enjoy it. I would like to think that when I visit somewhere that they will see that in me also.

A little later (2:17), Peter writes, "Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers." ......Love the brotherhood of believers! A healthy congregation of believers is one that shows love toward one another. As fellow-travelers, making our way to the same destination, we are to lighten each other's load. We will have the desire to do that because of the love that we have for each other.

When Paul speaks of "Putting away childish things" in 1 Cor.13:12, I think he is referring to those things that precede what he just said about love. You know those things in verses 4 through 7. We ought to read them often so that each time our love grows weak, we can get a "jump start."

The love for our brethren is not just that warm feeling that we have when we are worshipping with them. Its the love that moves us to cook a meal for someone when the cook is ill. Its the love that constrains us to visit them when they are ill, or visit with one of their loved ones. It is the love that causes us to think locally but act globally when we find a church in need far from us and attempt to meet it. "Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the brotherhood of believers" (Gal. 6:9).

It is hard to love our neighbors if we don't love our brothers. It is nearly impossible to love our enemies if we don't. Lets make it a goal to "have sincere love for our brothers, and love one another deeply, from the heart."

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
