Christian Service - Worth It Or Not?

"God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them" (Heb. 6:10).

Most of us learned the rewards and benefits concept early in life. You know....do good and you will get rewarded. It may have started at home, school, or even at church. Learn this....Do this (clean your room?)...perform this task....and you get THIS! Its the dangling of the proverbial carrot in front of the plow horse. You didn't think that the porpoises jump through the hoops at the water shows just for fun of it did you?

So as we "work" our way through life, doing one service after another, without getting the occasional fish tossed our way, we may be tempted to ask.... "Is all this Christian service really worth it?" There is a possibility that we have become so conditioned to look for the reward or dividend, that we wonder if the services were of any value. That little voice in the back may be asking, "what's in it for me?"

Lets shift gears to get some real perspective on this serving thing. The life of our Savior Jesus Christ was the true personification of service....Service for all the right reasons...Lets see; He washed the feet of His disciples, healed the sick, caused the lame to walk and blind to see, taught tirelessly to anyone who would listen to the Words of Life, and fed the hungry. And just what were the rewards? Rarely do the scriptures reveal that the recipients of His services overwhelmed Him with accolades, rewards, or even thanks. In fact, Jesus was often castigated for things like healing on the Sabbath.

As Christians, of this we can be certain! That in the eyes of God, the only eyes that really count, our service is OF GREAT VALUE! I will continue this topic for the next few devotionals. Stay tuned, please..

Have a wonderful day in service to your Lord....Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
