Not To Get Sluggish

WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE

"What a mighty God we serve, What a mighty God we serve, Angels bow before Him, Heaven and earth adore Him, What a mighty God we serve!"

#993 Traditional

In yesterday's verse, (Heb. 6:10) it said that God is not unjust and will not forget the work we do for others. Isn't it reassuring to know that we serve a God that never forgets our service to Him. That He doesn't forget the time you spent visiting in a hospital ten years ago, or in the nursing home, or cutting the lawn of someone who could not, or making a meal for a sick friend. However long ago, God remembers. "He will not forget your work and the love you have shown as you have helped his people."

The time you spent consoling those who needed consoling, listening to those who needed to talk....The extra time you spent preparing to teach a class...Our God remembers and records our service. Have I painted a beautiful picture with lovely broad strokes or what? Hey! We've done so much...Lets just relax for a while and contemplate how good we've been and how much God appreciates it...There is just a slight catch, so lets not get caught up in the euphoria of our good deeds.

As read on in Hebrews the sixth chapter, the writer has more important stuff to tell us. "We want each of you to show the same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised" (Heb. 6:11&12). Our God does not want us to "rest on our laurels." "Do serve" and "do not become lazy" should compel us to continue our Christian service.

Many of us have a number of opportunities to serve, whether in our local congregation or as individuals. Obviously, some acts of service tend to be seen and appreciated more than others....Rest assured....God knows each, large and small....More about service next time.

Have a wonderful weekend and a fulfilling worship experience on His day...Let your light shine for Him.. Love mark Phil. 4:11
