Walking The Worthy Walk

"O for a closer walk with God, A calm and heavenly frame,
A light to shine upon the road, That leads me to the Lamb.
So shall my walk be close with God, Calm and serene my frame;
So purer light shall mark the road That leads me to the Lamb."

William Cowper 1772

Do any of you walk for exercise? Maybe some of you who are younger, run. If you have knees like mine, perhaps its riding a bike. Whatever your form of exercise, what constitutes to you a good workout? More than likely its the fulfilling feeling you get when you are finished.

How about our walk with God? What is it that constitutes a "good walk?" To the Colossians Paul writes, "We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you might live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God" (1: 9 & 10).

Knowledge of God's will leads us to a worthy walk. Paul says that God wants us to be filled with "what we need."....Need for what? Need in order to live "in a manner worthy of the Lord!" Our walk with the Lord will become a fulfilling and worthy one when we are able to discern what the will of God is. It becomes even "worthier" when we take it to the next level...The level of a discipline that causes us to bear fruit in response to His blessings.

So, what is the power source for this most excellent walk? Paul continues in the very next verse. ""Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you might have great endurance and patience." It is kind of like the times during a workout that we want to quit. Its patience and endurance that will keep us going to get that feeling of satisfaction that we want.

God is the source of our ability to walk in a worthy manner....He is the source of our being "filled." He is the one who strengthens us....More tomorrow..

Have a great day filled with opportunities to serve....Make a difference.....mark Phil. 4:11
