"Let Me Tell You a Little Story"

"And the disciples came and said to Him, 'Why do you speak to them in parables?' Jesus answered them, 'To you it has been granted the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted'" (Matt. 13:10 & 11).

Often during a teaching session I would say to my students, "Let me tell you a little story." Invariably, I would get a few groans, (maybe like I'm getting from you right now) but they would almost always listen. They usually came out ahead. If it was a good story they would remember the lesson, and if it was "corny," they got to make fun of me....

In our own time there is a continuing need for the Biblical parables, and even for stroytelling that is appropriate and applicable. If it illustrates an important idea, then it is appropriate. If it makes application of important, scriptural ideas or doctrines, then it is applicable. I have heard it said that a lesson without illustrations is like a room without windows. Jesus taught in parables because of the willingness of some to hear and obey, thus many truths of the kingdom are revealed to them.

Through these stories Jesus was able to provide His disciples with a way to think on a "higher level." This is so becuse comparison of the "known" (earthly) truths with the "unknown" (heavenly) truths would shed further light on the unknown. With the help of the Lord's explanations of His parables, we can learn more of the "mysteries" of the kingdom. (Matt. 13: 34 & 35)

We all need to know more about the kingdom. The ball is in our court. We are challenged to be more studious Christians and to learn more of the LORD'S way and its impact on our lives. Studying the parables gives us those opportunities. If we believe that "the truth will make us free," (John 8:32) we must search the parables to learn the truth about the kingdom....Not to mention, the stroies are cool....

Have a great weekend and an uplifting worship experience on His day....Let your light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
