Really Important Stuff IV - Warnings

"Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist" (2 John 7).

Out on the highways there are many warning signs. If we come to an area of construction, those orange signs tell us that we must slow down and exercise care. In life the signs are not always bright orange, but are sometimes subtle. In 1 John, he warns against false teachers, but he could not let it go at that. There is the deceiver (Satan) to be concerned about and the antichrists (those opposed to Jesus' teachings).

John issues a second warning in verse 8. He writes, "Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for." I have been following the saga of baseball player Alex Rodriguez for the past few days. He has hit more home runs in the Major Leagues for his age than any player ever. His name has been revealed as one of those players who failed a drug test (steroids and human growth hormone). What a shame. Oh, those home runs will remain in the record books, but his name will be forever tarnished. People will look at his performance and body of work, and see it as accomplished by cheating.

Verse 8 indicates that we can lose what we have worked for if we do not guard our attitudes and actions, and things can slip away from us. As a champion athlete must work daily to stay on top, so must we if we are to achieve our goals. I would love to paint a rosy picture with the thought of the colors of "positive influence" dominating the canvas. It cuts both ways however. Just as positive influences can lift us up, negatives ones will try to drag us down.

The four "verbs" of the last four devotionals suggested this elect lady of 2 John needed to hear these things... LOVE OTHERS, ROJOICE WITH OTHERS, PLEAD WITH OTHERS, WARN OTHERS (AND SELF). "We must pay more attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away" (Heb. 2:1).

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
