Nothing But The Best

"When you bring the blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?---says the God Almighty (Malachi 1:8).

When you truly love someone, you want the best for them. Not the best "things" necessarily, but the best of you. As an employee you are being paid by someone to do a job. They deserve the best in you. How would you feel if your doctor only gave a partial effort in trying to diagnose your sickness and plan for recovery? If you play on a team, don't your teammates deserve your best effort.?

Here in the book of Malachi in the Old Testament, Israel was condemned for offering defiled, lame and sick animals. God responded in verse 10 with, "I am not pleased with you." Sacrifice was an integral part of the Jew's religious life. But for the sacrifice to be what God wanted, it had to be "just what God wanted." The sacrifice was not acceptable if it did not entail "sacrifice." In my feeble way of thinking, if what we offer is not good, we have not sacrificed anything.

In his commentary on today's passage, 18th century theologian Matthew Henry wrote, "If we worship God ignorantly and without understanding, we bring the blind for sacrifice; if we do it carelessly we are cold, dull and dead, in it we bring the sick; if we rest in bodily exercise, and do not make our heart work of it, we bring the lame; and if we suffer vain thoughts or distractions, to lodge within us, we bring the torn. Is it not a great affront to God and a great wrong or injury to our own souls?

Succinctly put, God deserves our very best.....the very best we have to offer! Our worship to Him MUST BE the very best we can give. We have an obligation to allow nothing to become a barricade to what is pure and undefiled...After all....In Jesus, God gave to us HIS VERY BEST...

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
