Being Inspired

"In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe" (Heb. 1:1 & 2).

On the evening of January 20, 1965 on the campus of Villanova University, I attended a speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a spellbinding and inspirational speaker. Unfortunately, I did not appreciate that experience as much as I should have until later years. What is it that makes a person inspirational to us when they speak? Is it who they are, the words they say, or how they say them?

Today's passage from the book of Hebrews explicitly says that God has spoken. To the Jews in days gone by it was through the prophets, "but in these last days" it was through Jesus. We can gain a certain amount of wisdom by listening to some people speak. Others speak and we may be entertained. But as God speaks through His Word, the greatest questions asked by humans can be answered.

Questions like, "who is God?"...."what is He like?"....."what is man?"...."what is man's destiny and purpose?" These questions are not answered by philosophy, literature, or science. They are answered by God talking to us, and His message is the Bible. Paul wrote, "This is what we speak, not in words taught to us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words" (1 Cor. 2:13).

The Words of God are "theopneustos." This is the Greek term that means inspired. It literally means "God breathed." The Holy Spirit chose the very words God wanted spoken or written by inspired men. We ought to be inspired by God's Word, because it was inspired by Him....More tomorrow..

Have a wonderful day....Make a difference.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
