Ready For The Inspection?

"As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. 'Stand up,' he said, 'I am only a man myself' " (Acts 10: 25 & 26).

Here in NJ, there in a mandatory inspection for our cars every two years. It is quite rigorous, with everything from emisions to brakes, wipers and turn signals to front end alignment given the once over. If our cars pass, we get a sticker that says we don't have to go through this for another two years. If not, its off to the mechanic to fix what ails our cars.

As humans, we are under constant scrutiny. Our inspection is a three-fold one. First there is the scrutiny of others. What do others think of me? There is some little voice inside us that says we want others to have a good opinion of us. Our work lives are certainly regulated by what our superiors think of how we get the job done. Even if we are self-employed, our work must pass some sort of inspection for us to be successful. In today's verse, Cornelius thought that Peter was some kind of God. Our friends and admirers may think we're the coolest things since air conditioning, while others may think we're the "pits." Bottom line? What others think cannot change our real status!

Then there's what we think of ourselves. Paul said in Romans 12:3, "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." We know how many of the Pharisees thought of themselves, and Jesus' reaction. We do need to look in the mirror of life and see someone who is saved.

Finally and most importantly.....What does God think of me? Will I pass His inspection? This is what really counts! In the grand scheme of life, how we pass the scrutiny of others may have some importance. How we really think of the important aspects of our own lives must be regulated by what God thinks. Make no mistake, Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Our REAL INSPECTION comes from our adherence to God's Word. If we pass, our "sticker" will be for eternity.

Have a great day...Go about doing good... Love mark Phil. 4:11
