Living - An Art Form II

"Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else" (Gal. 6:4).

Yesterday I spoke about three ingredients in the art of living. They were; Work (service to the Lord), love, and acceptance of self. As I attempt to complete our work of art, there are three more essentials. After reading this devotional, you may come up with more. I would be glad for you to share them with me.

Going along with the acceptance on oneself is trying to see ourselves as God and others do....Especially God! Only when we can see ourselves in the light of how God wants us to be can we begin to change for the better. We actually need to hold ourselves to a high enough standard that we will not be in the business of criticizing others (Matt. 7:3-5). Some are so critical of others that they cannot take the time to see the beauty of their own lives.

Along the same lines, Jesus wants us to take an active interest in others and cultivate that interest. "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you" (Matt. 7:12). We all know this don't we. We even call it the "Golden Rule." As Paul writes to the Philippians he says, "Each of you should not only look to your own interests, but also to the interests of others" (4:2). For our lives to be true works of art, others must be included. They help to complete the picture.

Finally, for our lives to be living and breathing works or art, they must be lived one day at a time. (Matt. 6:34)..An artist must not be shackled in his creation. So must we not be weighed down by our past or tied in knots about our futures. Our lives must flow...We can learn from yesterday but not live in it. We can improve from yesterday, but not change it. Since we cannot change yesterday or live tomorrow, we must live in the moment. To insure a wonderful future is to make preparation today. All great works of art are completed in todays....

So....Who needs Cezanne.....We've got us!

Have a great day...Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
