A Show Of Gratitude

"Jesus asked, 'Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine' " (Luke 17:17)?

I don't think I know anyone who likes to be taken for granted. I know that I don't. Its not like we serve just for the adulation, but just a simple "thank you" goes a long way in making us feel appreciated. In today's verse, Jesus is talking to a leper. Back in those days, leprosy was about the worst disease one could contact. A leper was on the "shunned list." Jesus had just cured 10 lepers by sending them to the priests, yet only one returned. Only one showed gratitude. Where were the other nine?

The Bible is dotted with people who either did or did not show gratitude. Instead of living a life of continued faith, Noah showed his lack of gratitude by getting drunk and sinning before his sons.

Children show gratitude for parents by honoring them. (Eph. 6:1-3) Parents in turn show gratitude for children by bringing them up in a Christian home and teaching them about the Lord. There is no greater gratitude that a parent can show for their children.(Eph. 6:4)

As Christians we show gratitude in our faith. So much gratitude that we are willing to do good things in the service of others. I believe this is one of the great themes in the book of James when he talks about faith and works. His conclusion that "faith without works is dead" (2:20) is is not to diminish the importance of faith, but rather magnify it. If our faith is strong enough, we will show it in our gratitude to the Lord by serving.....Our works are our gratitude to God!

A way to show our gratitude to Jesus for our salvation is the desire that others be brought to Him. Paul continued throughout his life to bring others to the Lord. I believe he was continually grateful for his salvation and wanted to show it to God. Finally, Jesus gave up His life that the church, His Kingdom on earth, could be established. We show our gratitude to Him by supporting it. Not just by showing up on Sunday morning, but in every way. The willingness to use the talents given to us to enlarge His Kingdom, shows gratitude for all that He has done for us. Lets be the "one, not the nine."

Have a great week.....Go about doing good....Love mark Phil. 4:11
