We CAN Get Satisfaction

"And I----in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness" (Psa. 17:15).

In 1965 the Rolling Stones released a song in the USA with the title, "Satisfaction." According to the song, "cause I try, and I try, and I try, and I try.....I can't get no satisfaction." All of you "boomers" out there will remember that song. I today's verse, David finds satisfaction! He actually finds that satisfaction in the ideal that we read in this verse.

Speaking with very broad strokes, we usually attain what we seek. By that I mean at least to some extent or measure, we find our niche by going after a goal. Put another way, our realization is likely to be in proportion to our aspiration. People seek what brings them satisfaction in different ways. In the verse preceding today's, David says, "O Lord. by your hand save me from such men" Which men is he speaking about? "from men of this world whose reward is in this life." There are certainly rewards to be found in this life, but they are not an end in themselves.

People seek satisfaction in riches and power. The Bible does not tell of the danger of seeking satisfaction in these for nothing. Verse after verse tells us of the futility of these temporary meanderings. I love the Jeremiah verse that says, "I know, O Lord, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for a man to direct his steps" (10:23). At the very height of our power, we need God's guidance even more. More power often brings more worry and less sleep. We can't add one cubit to our height, and are dependent on our Lord for every blessing.

Our real satisfaction comes in a job well done. Our real joy comes from service (Matt. 20: 26 & 27) rather than position. In today's verse is the wonderful thought of anticipation. Eager anticipation for the right things that bring the real satisfaction of life. The joy found as, "in righteousness I will see Your face........when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing Your likeness." The 'Stones just didn't know how and where to look!

Have a great day....Go about doing good...Love mark Phil. 4:11
