On Not Being Negligent

"So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have" (2 Peter 1:12).

How many times do we need to be reminded? Reminded of what you ask! Well, lets see....When we were kids, how many times did we need to be reminded to pick our clothes up off the floor in our room? When one of our young children borrowed the car, how many times did we remind them to be careful as they left the house? Do you get the picture?

In the context of this verse, Peter is reminding the people. Even though he knows that they are in the truth, he feels that it would be negligent on his part if he did not continue to remind them to stay in it....You know...Just to "refresh their memory." As a minister, each Sunday I try to prepare a lesson that keeps us in the truth. Each of us ought not be negligent in the sharing of God's message. Most of the time that is by example.

We should not be negligent in our relationship with our God and His church. We shouldn't be negligent in: attendance (Heb.10:25, Acts 7:20), Giving (1 Cor. 13:2), Praying (1 Thess 5:17), Shining as lights to the world (Phil 2:15).

We shouldn't be negligent about the needs of our family...Both physical (1 Tim 5:8) and spiritual (Eph 6:4). Then there is the nature of our benevolence. We are told not to be negligent of those less fortunate than we are. We should be willing to help those in need. (Jas. 1:27, Eph. 4:28).

It appears that I really tried to fill your plate this morning, didn't I? Why would I do such a thing. "So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them." Part of our responsibility as Christians is to do our part. When things become ingrained in us, that is a part of our very fiber, we do them as a matter good habit. I never tire in telling Jane that I love her, and am not negligent in showing it. When we really love the Lord, we will not be negligent in doing our part.

Have a wonderful day....Go about doing good....Love mark Phil. 4:11
