Redemption Time

"In Him we have redemption through His blood, for the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace" (Eph. 1:7).

Are you old enough to remember Green Stamps? We used to get them with a lot of our purchases. (gasoline, food, etc.) We would faithfully lick them and put them in a book. After an interminable amount of time we might have enough to redeem them for some merchandise. They were the frequent flyer miles of the good old days. Today's verse talks about redeeming, but on a grander scale. The Ephesian people to whom these words were written were familiar with the Greco-Roman practice of redemption. One who was enslaved could be freed (redeemed) with a ransom being paid.

We are in a redemptive state today. We have it and all other spiritual blessings because we are "in Christ." Paul writes to us in Romans 6:3 & 4 to explain how we get into this essential state. The reason we have redemption is because all have sinned (Rom. 3:23). As the Ephesians knew that the way out of slavery was a paid ransom, we know that Jesus paid it all. Through His blood we are ransomed from the slavery of sin. We are indeed redeemed.

Another essential spiritual blessing associated with our redemption is the forgiveness of our sins. Through this forgiveness, bought and paid for, we are redeemed. Jesus words are; "I am going away, and you will look for Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come" (John 8:21). He said that if one dies in his sin they could not go "where He goes." Our redemption is so important so that we can go where He has gone to prepare a place for us.

Finally, the last essential is the richness of His grace. The reality is that even though He paid the price, we are simply not worthy. We have not done anything to deserve the price paid for us. It can only be merited through the GRACE OF GOD!! "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith---and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God---not by works that one can boast" (Eph.2: 7 & 8). We should do no bragging in this....Our redemption is God's gift to us through Jesus Christ...

Have a wonderful day...To quote a friend...."do right for no other reason than because it is right" Love mark Phil. 4:11
