Thinking About Women

"After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him and some women......Mary Magdalene...Joanna....Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means" (Luke 8:1-3).

Lest you think from my title today that I am turning into a dirty old man, this Sunday is Mother's Day. I thought it might be appropriate to write some devotionals about women in our New Testaments. Women played a big part in the success of Jesus' ministry. He gave examples of women often who played a prominent role. Luke in today's verse talks about Mary Magdalene, Joanna (wife of Herod's steward), and Susanna. It says that they all contributed of their own means to support Jesus' work.

Among other women mentioned by Luke are; Peter's mother-in law, the widow of Nain, the woman who washed Jesus' feet, the woman with the blood loss, Mary and Martha who offered hospitality, Jairus' daughter, the widow who gave the two mites.

John in his gospel however, offers a different aspect or viewpoint of women's influence in the ministry of Jesus. The four women he and I will talk about this week are Mary (Jesus mom), the Samaritan woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery, and Mary Magdalene. There is a special lesson to be learned from each of them as they interacted at some time(s) with our Savior. Maybe as Mother's Day approaches, whether we are men or women, we will think of how special women in our lives have affected us. This August will mark four years since my mom's passing. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her in some special way.

I guess that Mother's Day is a good time for reflection. I might challenge you to look into the gospel of John this week and find the four women that I am going to write about. See if you come to the same conclusions about them that I have...Maybe in your study you will find even more..Enjoy being in the Word.

Have a great beginning to your week....RAK someone today....(Random Act of Kindness)......Love mark Phil. 4:11
