Being On The Watch - Watch What?

"Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come" (Mk. 13:33).

The KJV uses the word "watch" instead of alert which hopefully explains why I am using the word also. The term watch can be used in three senses. To watch meaning to look for (Matt. 24:42). A watch in the night (Lk. 12:38). To watch in order to guard (Heb. 13:17). Actually today's verse has to do with the latter so I will address that one this morning. So....Watch what? I will use an acrostic with the word watch this morning to hopefully make a few salient points.

W....Words..Jesus tells us in Matt. 12:36 "that by our words we will be acquitted or condemned." It is so important to turn on our brains before we turn up the volume. How many times have you put yourself in a hole with some careless words. Even if the intentions were not what we meant, the words cannot be taken back in, only apologized for..

A....Actions..This is all about the walk over the talk. Jesus is interested in how we convert our belief into deeds of worth. Paul told Timothy, (2 Tim. 4:5) despite what others might do he was to do the work of an evangelist...The words used are endure, do and discharge. What we do rather than what we say will often tell people about the strength of our beliefs. The power of the Lord should cause us to act.

T....Time..We only have so much of it! We ought to use it for Him. Paul tells the Ephesians, "Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil" (5:16). If our love is powerful enough, we will want to use our time in serving Him by serving others.

C....Company..If we are indeed "known by the company we keep," does that make us proud? "Do not be misled; Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Cor. 15:33). As our children grow up, many of their problems will stem from the associations they make. So will ours...

H....Heart.."Above all, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (Prov. 4:24). I really like that term....The "wellspring of our lives." It means where it starts.. Jesus told us succinctly that our treasure will be found where our hearts are. (Matt. 6:19). Our hearts, the part of us that guides us, must be guarded with all diligence. If not, "things" will take the place of that which is really valuable in life..

After double-checking, I spelled the word watch correctly..A little more tomorrow about watch....

Have a great day...Go about doing good....love mark Phil. 4:11
