Jesus - Our Friend

"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything I have learned from my Father I have made known to you" (John 15:15).

What things do we tell our friends? Do we have a friend so close that we can tell them the most intimate details of our lives. Is there someone in our lives that will sit and listen to all of our troubles and also listen to us when we regal them with all of our successes too? Those people more than likely are few and far between. Jesus has told us in today's verse that He is our friend. He qualifies for that position in that He has shared His father with us. He has given us all of the information on how to live meaningful lives. But there is much more!

Jesus is our friend despite all of the "warts." This makes Him an even more special friend..."and you will give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins" (Matt. 1:21)...."For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost" (Lk. 19:10). Jesus is such a special friend that He came to earth to save us from our sins. Lets go a step farther. Paul tells us in Rom. 5:8 that, "while we were yet sinners that Christ died for us. Jesus gave up his innocent life to save us...Not those of us who are clean and pure, but those of us who a sinners.

Jesus' friendship doesn't stop here though. Christ gave us the Gospel to further save us from our sins. He has seen to it that His inspired Word can be ingrained in our hearts to guide our way. He is such a wonderful friend that He extends an invitation to have a indescribable rest with Him. He says that all of us "who are weary and burdened" can come to Him. He says that He "is gentle and humble in heart, and we will find rest for our souls" (Matt. 11:28-30). Jesus had experience(s) with sinners. From the adulterous woman of Jn. 8 to Zacchaeus in Lk. 19. Jesus even prayed for forgiveness for those sinners that crucified Him.

It amazes me that with all of my flaws, Jesus still wants to be my friend. The bigger question is, do we want to be His?

Have a great day...Let your light shine for your Friend.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
