No One Ever Spoke Like This

"No one ever spoke the way this man does," the guards declared" (Jn. 7:46).

When it comes to speaking, some people "have it" and some don't. The first time I remember encountering the word charisma was when JFK ran for president of the United States in the early 60s. Dr. Martin Luther King could hold an audience spellbound when he gave a speech. I'm not exactly sure what it is....But it is! When the chief priests and Pharisees sent the temple guards to arrest Jesus, they came back empty handed. Why? Read today's verse.

So, how did this man speak as to enthrall even the temple guards? First, Jesus spoke with authority. (Matt.26:28 & 29) He spoke with this confidence and authority because He had the power. He knew that the words He spoke were words of truth and life. No one ever spoke such profound truths. He took complex issues and reduced them, perhaps in a parable, so that all could understand. He could explain the value of the Kingdom of Heaven by comparing it to a treasure hidden in a field or a great and wonderful pearl.

He could speak these great truths with tenderness as He invited all to His rest in Matthew 11:28-30. He could speak with love and compassion and he uttered, "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."Out of the same mouth could come scathing rebukes when Jesus saw injustice. He did not hesitate to "tap dance" on the Pharisees or Sadduces when they were way out of line. After all, they were supposed to be the religious examples.

No one ever offered and spoke about the promises that He did. The last words He said before ascending into heaven were, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved" (Mk. 16:16). Can there be any greater promise than this. He calls on them and us to believe and obey. Finally, no one ever spoke the words of hope that He did. Read those great words of hope in John 14: 1-4 where he talks about His Father's House and the room He is preparing just for you. Read His words when He says, "I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death." (Jn. 8:51)

We may hear some great orator and be held in awe for a time but the words of Jesus are etched on our hearts. No one EVER spoke the way this man did! The wonder for us is that we can read His words daily and meditate on them...Words of authority, truth in simplicity, tenderness, rebuke, love and compassion, promise and hope.

Have a great day....RAK someone today... Love mark Phil. 4:11
