Our Sacred Lives

"Then God said,'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness'"......So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him" (Gen. 1:26 & 27).

I have heard the question posed; "If your house caught on fire and you could only save a few things, what would go back in for?" I hope this has never or will never happen to you, but the things you would bring out must be of some value to you. God must really think that humans a very special, sacred if you will, if He made us in His image. This image is a spiritual one as Jesus explains in John 4:24. "God is spirit, and His worshippers must worship Him in spirit and in truth." God gave to man dominance over all living things of the earth. (Gen. 1:28-31)

Human life is so sacred that He legislated against taking it. (Ex. 20:13) The writer of Ecclesiastes sums up another reason that our lives are so sacred to God. We were designed to obey, so God has given us good stuff to adhere to. "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter; Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (12:13).

Our sacred lives are to be an honor to God. Paul gives the reason why in 1 Cor. 6. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price" (6:19 & 20). I used to tell my science students that anything of any value could be measured. (math teachers probably said the same)...We must account for the things we do and say in this life. Even if we are able to fool people, God is not fooled! He knows all that we say and do and nothing can be hidden from Him. "God will give to each person according to what he has done" (Rom. 2:6).

Finally, our lives are so important to God, so sacred, that He has made provisions for it to be "continued." (John 14: 1-4) This important part of our sacred life was summed up by Paul in Phil. 1:21 as he wrote, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." When our house is on fire, Jesus will come back in to save us....

Have a wonderful day....RAK someone today... Love mark Phil. 4:11
