Why Should I Attend A Bible Class

"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have" (1 Pet.3:15).

When we were young the question that we more than likely asked the most was.....Why? As our children in turn asked the question ad nauseam, we were probably tempted to answer, "Cause daddy (mommy) said." In the "grown up world" we are expected to answer the "why" questions. Here's one for you....Why should I attend a Bible class? Since I can't get away with, "cause mark said," lets look at a few reasons...

Over and over again in scripture it tells the importance of reading God's Word. Jesus described His words as "living water" and "words of life." Paul wrote to Timothy to study the Word. (1 Tim 4:13, 2 Tim.2:15) I would run out of space if I wrote down every passage that refers to the importance of being in the Word. Though private study is important, what better opportunity to get in some extra Bible knowledge is afforded to us than to attend a class. A class in which a teacher has spent time in study to share the Word with you and you are given the chance for discussion. Here at Northfield, other than our regular Bible classes, we try to have a Bible Book Club that meets once a month in someone's home for study and discussion of a particular book we have chosen. It has been both enjoyable, uplifting and educational.

I believe that Christianity is a "teaching religion." We often have these teaching moments when we least expect them. Today's verse lets us know that we need to be prepared. After all, as Christians we are a joyous and happy people. There are folks out there that are looking for that joy and happiness. As Christians we are a hopeful and contented people. Everyday we will meet those that are looking for hope and contentment. As Christians we are patient people and there are those around us that are looking for that too. We are all these things because the Lord has shown us the way through His Word. Is there a better place to learn all of these wonderful traits that we learn in our Bibles than in a Bible class?

Let me share with you an idiosyncrasy of mine. If its TMI, please indulge me. I will not got into a restaurant (even fast food), sit down and eat by myself. I just can't do it! Even if it were between me not eating at all and sitting down by myself, I would choose the not eating. Our souls need to be fed! (1 Pet. 2:2)...Heb. 5:12-14) What better place to feed on God's Word than in a Bible class. We can feed where others are looking to feed also. We can share a "spiritual meal" and perhaps get a new perspective on a verse that has been puzzling us for a while. I think I will continue these thoughts tomorrow..

Have a wonderful beginning to your week....RAK someone today... Love mark Phil. 4:11
