A Kind Of Life

"They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead---Jesus who rescues us from the coming wrath" (1 Thess. 1:9 & 10).

So....What kind of life do you lead? Is that a weird question or what? Its a question that is so broad that it would take us quite a while just to collect our thoughts. Even by my standards, (a bit eccentric at times) it should be more specific. Let me make it less general. What is a Christian life?

Today's verses tell us about the Christian life as Paul wrote to the Christians at Thessalonica. First he said that it is a changed life..."how you turned to God from idols." Since we don't, and more than likely have never worshipped the kinds of idols they did, we need to "modernize" that just a bit. It may have been the idol of pleasure. (1 Cor. 10:7) Or maybe it was that whole list of stuff written about on Col. 3:5. Our Bibles are clear that a Christian life is a changed one. The word convert, which is used over and over to describe a Christian life, is applicable here. The idea of "and put on the new man, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness" (Eph.4: 24) comes to mind. " Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, he is a new creation; the old has gone the new has come" (2 Cor 5:17)! What kind of life do you live? A changed life.

Secondly, today's verse says that we live a serving life..."to serve the living and true God." We only to go back a few verses (3) to see that Paul talks about "your work produced by faith." A servant's job is simple...Serve! In order for us to serve God, we must serve man. These are the exact words of Jesus in Matthew 25. Jesus even equates greatness to service....That greatness in the kingdom is dependent upon service. (Matt. 26:26 & 27). What kind of life do you lead? A life of service.

Thirdly, today's verse says that our life is a waiting life. "and to wait for the Son from heaven." Jesus very clearly said that He would return and told us the why. People who really listened to Him believed this and were waiting for Him. It will be a glorious appearing. To make it even more fascinating, no one knows when. (according to God, not even Him) Our lives should be led in respect of His return. We will want to be found acceptable in His sight. What kind of life do we live? A life of waiting. As our lives changed when we became Christians, we became His servants. We then are in wait of His return. Life is good...

Have a wonderful day... Let your light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
