Great Leader - Great Followers

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand" (Jn. 10: 27 & 28).

There is just something about a great leader that we can't exactly put our finger on. All kinds of descriptive words are used to describe them...Charismatic? Likable? Unifying? Trustworthy? There are probably a lot more. FDR was elected president of the United States 4 times. There was something about him that the people just trusted when they stepped into the voting booth. I know that when Israel had "good kings," they prospered. As Christians, Jesus has taken on the mantle of leadership in our lives. Rather than write about Him as leader, I would like to focus on us as followers. Today's verse talks about the shepherd/sheep relationship. Much of John 10 is dedicated to the description of this dynamic. It seems simple to me when Jesus describes it. Sheep just follow the shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. We should follow...

Good citizens are loyal to their leader. We have in Jesus the ultimate leader. "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household" (Eph. 2:19). Christ is our King and we are His citizens...We are to be obedient to Him..In the 15th chapter of John our relationship to Jesus is described in the sense of the "vine and branches." As the branches of God's tree with Jesus as the vine, we are to bear fruit. We are known by our fruit and the vine will supply everything we need to be fruit bearing if we only let Him.

Then there is that thing about being members of His body, the church. Though the body has many parts that might have different functions, all the parts must work in harmony for it to work right. (you might want to take a look at 1 Corinthians 12) To make is really simple, it says that we ought to cooperate and function as members of the body because Christ is the "head" of the body and we are its members.

Finally, Jesus said to us, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (Jn. 8:12). Because Christ is the light of the world, we are to shine as HIS lights. We ought to shine like "stars in the universe" (Phil.2:15), shedding His light to those around us. It is cool to be a part of Jesus' kingdom. He is the ultimate leader....We ought to be the loyal and ultimate followers.

Have a wonderful day...Reflect the light of Jesus to others....Love mark Phil. 4:11
