A Wonderful Life

"The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me" (Gal 2:20).

We have been given one earthly life to live in our bodies. How we choose to live it says a lot about us. The apostle Paul had this unique take on his "life in the body" in Gal. 2:20. Peter said it this way..."I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body" (2 Pet. 1:13). But there in another life being lived here in this body beside the obvious physical one. The writer of Ecclesiastes puts it this way.."And the dust returns to the ground it came from, but the spirit returns to God who gave it" (12:7). So the first part of today's verse tells us that we have a life in the body which is both physical and spiritual.

Paul than states in the same verse, "I live by faith in the Son of God." Christianity is a religion of faith. The faith that we have that comes from God's Word. Jesus explains our faith in the year 2009, in John 22:29 when He says, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." These are such powerful words coming from the Savior's lips. James is quick to point out in his epistle that our faith must be manifest in our actions and that what we do is reflective of the magnitude of our faith.

In the next part of today's scripture, Paul says, "who loved me." Our whole belief system has as its foundation the love of Jesus for us. Love has a way of proving itself on many levels. As Paul was going to the churches to collect funds for brethren who had fallen on hard times, we have the wonderful manifestation of love shown by the giving of the Macedonians. He writes, "Therefore, show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it" (2 Cor. 8:24). Christ did so much for us for any to question His great love. It is one of the most comforting thoughts found in His Word.

Finally, the last part of today's verse says, "and gave Himself up for me." The great and magnificent love of Jesus sent Him to the cross for us. Sent Him there in our place, even though He was free of any sin, as he bore ours there. Jesus' love was just not one of words, but of action. He paid the ultimate price to exhibit for all the love of the Father and the Son together. Maybe the next time you read Gal. 2:20 it will be with a clearer eye. "The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Jesus today.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
