Taking Heed

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and others" (1 Tim. 4:16).

There are warning signs all around us. We see them on the highways. We see them as we take various diagnostic tests in hopes of staying healthy. We take these tests, for blood pressure, sugar levels or cholesterol to head off possible issues. Its that old "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" thing. In today's verse, Paul is telling Timothy and us to take heed..."Watch your life." I thought of a few things that can improve the quality of our lives and make us better in the sight of God and man.

"So watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him" (Lk. 17:3) Having a forgiving attitude is a wonderful Christian trait. But evenmore than a trait, it must be ingrained within us. There is no limit to the number of times we are to forgive. (Matt. 18:21 & 22). Forgiveness should be an everlasting reality in our lives. True forgiveness does not constantly remind the person of their sin. To be forgiving is to be Christ-like. To have the hope of being forgiven by God, we need to forgive others. It is taking heed of something that will improve the quality of our lives.

"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap" (Lk. 21:34). We need to take heed of those things that can take control of our lives and become more important than life itself. There are so many temptations out there that would pull us away from our first love if we let them take a foothold in our lives. The more good things that we fill our lives with, the less room there will be for those tempting things. We must keep our eyes on the prize and not allow those things to rule us.

In the parable of the sower, one of the aspects of life we are warned about is letting the cares and worries of life "choke out" the good parts. All of us are going to have some worries, anxieties and cares in our lives. Again, maintaining a view of the big picture is important. We just can't let them dissuade us from our goals. Finally, we ought to simply watch over ourselves. All of us ought to strive to be examples of how a Christian is to conduct his or her life. We never know when someone is looking to us to guide them through a rough spot. We need always to be ready to provide that example of how a person of God conducts their life. Just a few things we ought to heed...

Have a great day.... Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
