Some Stuff About The Gospel

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Rom. 1:16).

I have heard is said that here in America, "we are a country of laws." To live satisfactorily and productively, it is necessary for us to live by these laws. Before we get the privilege of driving a car, we must have a working knowledge of traffic laws, and after navigating my small boat in the back bays of NJ as a clammer for over 30 years, I had to take a boater safety/knowledge course to continue legally. The set of laws by which we govern our lives as Christians is set down for us in our "constitution.".....the gospel...The term comes from the Old English, "God-spell," or literally, "good news."

As we are to have a working relationship with the laws of our land to live in it well and successfully, we are also to have a functional knowledge of the gospel to lead a good Christian live. Today's verse is a good starting point. The apostle Paul says we are not to be ashamed of it. That seems innocuous enough on the surface, but I think it goes much deeper than shame. He goes on to say, "For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last....the righteous will live by faith." We are to have faith in it and live by it without any trace of shame.

With this faith comes our obedience. The laws of a country are there to be obeyed and the gospel is certainly no different. "But officer, I didn't know the speed limit was 45 mph." Ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse to be in non-compliance. We have the need to learn more and more about God's message to us. "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditated day and night" (Psa. 1:2). The Psalmist did this so that he would be blessed.(happy) He did it to be "like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." As we meditate more on the gospel, we should have the desire to be in obedience to it.

If we believe it to be the power of God to salvation and find a blessedness and happiness in obeying it, we should also have the desire to share it with others. There is no better way to make others happy and blessed than to bring them under the umbrella of the gospel too. The gospel brings enlightenment to the church and builds it up. It breaks down barriers. In His church, we "are all in one in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:29). The gospel sets forth for us the very best way to live. The gospel obeying Christian should be the best employee, student, employer and citizen there can possibly be. After all, we are under the "perfect law" of Christ. I will share more stuff about the gospel with you tomorrow...

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
