More Stuff About The Gospel

"Timothy, guard what has been entrusted into your care, turn away from godless chatter.....which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith" (1 Tim. 6:20-21).

In talking about the gospel yesterday I spoke about not being ashamed of it, obeying it and being willing to share it with others. Just a few more thoughts. First, we are to hold it close to us as a treasure. It is the treasure of life. Paul put forth in Galatians 1 that there is only one gospel and that men would try to pervert it. They were to stand strong in it's faith and truth, not allowing man-made words to creep in and change it from a message from God to a message from men. "For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also" (Lk. 24:34).

As Paul wrote to the church at Philippi, he talked in the first chapter about "defending and confirming the gospel." In science, when people have found what they believe to be a truth and have proven it through confirming experiments, they are willing to defend it. When a PHD candidate is near the end of his quest, one of the last things he must do is to defend the thesis that he wrote before a group of experts. If we believe the gospel to be the truth of God, we must also be willing to defend it. We ought to be willing to defend it because we want to "hold it fast." In First Corinthians 15: 1 & 2, Paul reminds his hearers about gospel he preached to them and that they received. "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain."

My mom taught me to be proud of who I was. As I look back at what she went through to help make me what I am today, I am even more proud. We are to take pride in being Christians! If we have this pride, we will live lives worthy of our calling. "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (Eph. 4:1)...."Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ" (Phil. 1:27).....To me, this means if we believe it, we ought to LIVE IT! In a world looking for real joy, happiness and contentment, we ought to shine out, living a life that would make Jesus proud....

Have a great day...Live the gospel....Make a difference Love mark Phil. 4:11
