Don't Forget Your Keys

"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 16:19).

How many keys are on your key ring? I had a vice principal years ago who had this huge key ring with a lot of keys on it. He would walk up and down the halls and everyone would know that it was him. They had their desired effect.

In today's verse, Peter had just answered Jesus' question about who He was successfully. As a result, he was given the "keys to the kingdom." Now we all know that keys get us into places. Fifty days after Jesus resurrection, Peter declared what these keys to the kingdom were.( Acts 2: 36-41) He was given the authority to state the terms of salvation, or in other words, the way into the kingdom of heaven. Peter stated them with such eloquence, force and authority that 3,000 people accepted his message and were baptized on that day. The message has not varied. The same keys that opened the kingdom of heaven to those who believed and responded then, are available to us today.

Jesus again talks about a key in Revelation 3:7 as He addresses the church at Philadelphia. "These are the words of Him who is holy and true and holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open." Christ had been raised to sit and reign on "David's throne." (Acts 2:30-35).. Because of this, He and He only, has the key of David. Now what is the key of David? I believe it to be complete authority in the Messianic kingdom...

Finally, another mention of keys. This time in Revelation 1:18. Jesus states here just who He is. "I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys to death and Hades" (V 17 & 18). Hades is the approximate Greek term of the Hebrew word Sheol...The place of departed spirits.... The resurrection of Jesus' body and the return of His spirit from Hades won a victory over these enemies of mankind. (1 Cor. 15:54 & 55)....Jesus indeed has ALL AUTHORITY! He has given us the keys, we need to do the rest....Always remember your keys... You wouldn't want to locked out....

Have a great day...Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
