On Being Faithful

"Do not fear what you are about to suffer......Be faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life" (Rev. 2:10).

The only dog our family had was an Irish Setter. I picked her out of a litter as a puppy when our children were very young. She was a great pet and very good around the children. She was however, "my dog," if you know what I mean. She always wanted to be with me and come to me more than anyone else. One of the attributes that makes a dog a good companion and pet is their faithfulness.

Today's verse (which I used yesterday also) speaks to the Ephesian church and warns that persecution awaits them. What they are urged to do is be faithful. Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount also urged faithfulness in the face of persecution. Though we more than likely will not face persecution for our faith, the lesson is still a powerful one. If we can grasp the concept of being faithful through persecution, we can endure the hardships of life and persevere in faith.

"Who then is a wise and faithful servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them food at the proper time" (Matt. 24:45)? Jesus calls on us here to be faithful servants. Much is said in our New Testaments about service. I believe that our service is a natural extension of our degree of faith...They ought to be in proportion...The greater the faith, the greater the service...In His kingdom, we can serve others by serving the church. The church should always be searching for ways to serve rather than waiting for those opportunities to just "come along." "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (1 Cor. 15:58).

Finally, we are to be faithful in our stewardship. "Now it is required that those that have been given a trust must prove faithful" (1 Cor. 4:2). Jesus explained to us in the parable of the talents, (Matt.25) that faithful stewards are to increase the talents given to them. Increase them so that we can do more good for the Lord. All that we have comes from the Lord and we are just His temporary stewards. Being faithful in the use of God's gifts is another way of proving our faithfulness....More about being faithful tomorrow....

Have a wonderful day...Its a great day to RAK someone....Love mark Phil. 4:11
