The Last Days and Back in the Day

"But realize this, that in the last days, difficult times will come" (2 Tim. 3:1).

Which term has bothered you more when talking to an older person; "Back in the day" or "Back in the good old days?" My dad used both of them to let me know how much better it was back then. The pizza was better and of course cheaper. The fishing was ALOT better..They always caught more fish "back then." Even the cars were better. (Did I mention cheaper?) As a person who knows just a little about history, these good old days included the Great Depression in our country...How could they have been better...Both my mom and dad quit school before they even got into high school to work and help support the family...How could they possibly have been better?

For those in the religious world that think that because of the present sinful conditions today that we are in the "last days," I've got some startling news. Evil was not invented yesterday. It has been with us even before Paul wrote of the last days to Timothy right here in the second epistle. All of the sins and those committing them that he lists here in the third chapter were in the world then and are still here. In actuality, any days after Jesus resurrection, are the "last days." To take the thought a step further, the good old days and the last days are filled with the good, the bad and the ugly. We can look into our past and remember them all.

As we come into the present, the warning by Paul to Timothy still applies. In these last days, sin needs to be avoided. Those who would attempt to corrupt us or the church must be dealt with. As we get older we do get closer to our own last days. "Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith patience, love, persecutions and sufferings....Continue in the things you have learned" (2 Tim 3: 10, 11, 14). As we stay in the faith, we will produce some "back in the days to share with others...Its OK to reminisce of days gone by as long as we use them as learning experiences for us, and teaching moments for others. By the way, that pizza we had last night was one of the best ever...Hmmmmmmmmm...

Have a wonderful week...Make a difference...RAK someone.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
