When All Else Fails - Follow the Instructions

"In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Jesus Christ, constantly nourished on the words of faith and of the sound doctrine you have been following" (1 Tim 4:6).

Do you remember some of your children's first tries at independence? "I do it!" There were a lot of "me, mine and my" sprinkled in their speech. There seems to be something within the human spirit that wants to sing that old Frank Sinatra song, "I Did It My Way." Many carry this attitude into adult life and get their hackles up when it comes to orders, instructions or even guidance. How many times have you done something only because you were told not to, or did not do something simply because you were instructed to do so?

Instructions are often given for our own good. Sometimes they are given to keep us safe and sometimes to help us to achieve success. They can even give us insight when we are confronted with an unfamiliar situation, and give us some wisdom on how to deal with it. The Book of Proverbs is dedicated to sound instruction..Lets take a look at the first nine verses...

"To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
To receive the instruction of wisdom,
Justice, judgment, and equity;
To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion-----
A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles,
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
My son, hear the instruction of your father,
And do not forsake the law of your mother;
For they will be a gracious ornament on your head,
And chains about your neck" (Proverbs 1: 1-9).

God's instruction and guidance are like wonderful ripe fruit on the vine, just waiting to be picked. The fruit of instruction is waiting to nourish us so that we will live more productive lives of service. They are there to help us deal with the "speed bumps" of life, work through them and get stronger. It might be good for us today to dwell on these words from the Proverbs...I'm going to....Lets be eyes-wide-open Christians....To do that, we need to be Bible-wide-open Christians....Lets not wait until all else fails....Lets just follow the instructions from the get go...

Have a great day....Let you light shine for Him Love mark Phil. 4:11
