Making Room or Jesus

"While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son, She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn" (Lk. 2:7).

A trait of my mom's that I have tried to emulate was her hospitality. I remember when I was in college and we had a "sophomore sneak day" Without warning, we descended on our humble home early in the morning and I announced our presence. (about 10 of us) My mom, without any prodding got busy frying eggs and making toast. These were friends of her son....There was room for them in her home...

When Jesus came into the world, there just wasn't any room for him. There was no room in Herod's territory within the Roman Empire as he ordered the execution of all the male children hoping to destroy Jesus. Talk about a lack of hospitality...."He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him" (Jn. 1:11). The people to whom he was prophesied to come did not accept him. Even though most of the prophets wrote of his coming, and Isaiah vividly described him, they just could not make room. He chose 12 men with whom to share the good news. These men were his disciples and they shared intimate moments and witnessed great miracles. One of them, Judas had no room for him in his life and betrayed him to the authorities.

There was so little room for him in the world that he was finally put to death. Here was a man, the Son of God, coming to seek and save the world, and there was no room for him. We can read all about this in our Bibles, but lets fast-forward to 2009. Is there room for Jesus in the world today? I am old enough to remember when Sunday mornings were sacrosanct. No one scheduled any sports or other secular activities on Sunday morning. "And on the first day of the week we came together to break bread" (Acts 20:7). Today so many have forgotten that the first day of the week is our day of "church worship." I see games being played today instead of worship services being attended..Are people refusing to make room for Jesus on HIS DAY?

In the dog-eat-dog world of business, to coin a phrase from Seinfeld, do we feel like we're wearing "Milk bone underwear?" Have people forgotten the Golden Rule of Matt 7:12? Or is there no room for Jesus perfect way to deal with each other today? Do we live in a house or a home? A house is just that, but Jesus ought to reside in our homes. Is there evidence that Jesus is in our homes? Are we hospitable and caring neighbors? For our house to be a home, we need to find room for Christ. Finally, is there room for Jesus in your heart? This is indeed where it all begins. Herod and Judas had Jesus in their lives but not in their hearts. People who cheat one another in the business world may know who Jesus is, but He is not in their hearts..Our houses can become homes if Jesus is in the hearts of those who reside...Thanks for the good lesson mom....We just have to make room...

Have a great day..Lets go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
