A Bit More On Fellowshipping With God

"Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy" (1 Pet. 1:8).

Yesterday, here at Northfield, I preached a sermon about faith. You know, that "being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" (Heb. 11:1). In our fellowship with God we are walking by faith. This fellowship is based upon our faith in the existence of God. We pray to a God we cannot see, we share communion with a God we cannot see and we serve and share with others for a God we cannot see. Does this sound outlandishly foolish? Not when we look at the evidence. God, though we cannot see Him, leaves His footprints all over the place and we don't have to be a tracker to follow them. The part that our God plays in out lives if we let Him is undeniable, so it is not surprising that we fellowship with Him based on our strong convictions of faith.

Later in the Book of Hebrews the writer says, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him" (V 6). This faith that we have initiates our fellowship with the Lord and as the writer says, it does not go unrewarded. To me it is astounding that our Lord wants this fellowship from me. The Lord "who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see (1 Tim. 6:16), wants me to fellowship with Him....AMAZING!!!!

Lets make sure that nothing gets in the way of this fellowship. There are forces out there that would try to interfere. "Friendship with the world is hatred toward God" (Jas. 4:4). Isaiah tells us "that the arm of the Lord is not too short to save or His ear too dull to hear.....But your iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear" (V 1 & 2). Any break in our fellowship is done by us. Lets all be sure that we keep the fellowship strong. God has promised to do His part....We must do ours...

Have a great week...Lets be sure to make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
