What's So Cool About The Good News?

"The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the good news is preached to the poor" (Matt. 11:5).

My dad had quite a few sayings that I think of and even quote from time to time. One of them was, "If its free...Take it!" Having come through the Great Depression, my parents were quite frugal by nature. Frugal by the way, is a polite word that we did not use when mom and dad were alive. There is something in everyone's nature that enjoys getting something for free. The Gospel of Jesus is free and its good news is everlasting. In the third chapter of the Book of Acts, Peter and John are in the temple while a crippled man was being carried to the gate to beg. The man asked Peter and John for money and Peter replied, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I.. give you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk" (V 6). The Gospel was for everyone back then and it has not changed...FREE.....What a bargain...

It is well known in my circle that I am not very good mechanically. I have always had trouble with spatial relationships. I listen to people describe their home in terms of square feet and logistics of the rooms and I politely nod, not knowing what they are talking about..That being said, I do understand the Gospel. "When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus" (Acts 4:13). Its not trigonometry, physics or even spatial relationships. It is the plain and simple truth about Jesus Christ our Savior. It is not cloaked in fancy terms or figures, but is understandable. To the Corinthians Paul stated, "But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue" (1. 14:19).

One of the things that I enjoyed about team sports was its great "equalizing nature." On a baseball team, it did not matter where you came from, your race, height or how much money you had...You were welcome on the team as long as you could play ball. The Gospel is a great equalizer also. It discriminates against no one. It has the ability to bring people together from all walks of life, with no attention paid to where you came from, race, height or how much money you have. As long as you are a believer in Jesus Christ our Savior! The humble are raised and the proud are humbled. "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up" (Jas. 4:10). The Good News of Jesus is very cool...More about how much tomorrow..

Have a wonderful day...A good day for a RAK.... love mark Phil. 4:11
