Milk And Meat

"I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are not able" (1 Cor. 3:2).

The first book that I remember reading as a child was entitled, Henry The Helicopter. It was a "little engine that could" story written in1945 about a little helicopter. I don't know what caused me to think about it several months ago, but I did and just knew that I had to find a copy. Thank goodness for eBay..I found a copy, dust cover and all in very good condition and bid it out. As I am writing this morning, I can look up to my left and see it on a shelf in my small space allocated to me in our home.

We all outgrow our children's books and advance to those that are a little "meatier." Are you currently reading a book? I am pretty sure it is not "The Cat In The Hat." In today's verse, the apostle Paul talks about having fed the Corinthians with "milk." More than likely this refers to the first principles of the gospel...The"beginner" stuff like identifying Jesus as the Son of God, faith in Him, repentance, confession and baptism. All of these things are very important to us and were especially important when we decided to take Jesus into our lives. Some of the milk may have even included basic teachings about the church like how we are to worship and when. New Christians need this milk for a time to sustain their faith. But there comes a time, just as we move on from our children's books, that we need to move to new levels.

This teaching is not just from Paul, but is clearly spoken of in the fifth chapter of the book of Hebrews and alluded to by Peter. So...What's the meat? I would like to spend a couple of days writing about this. For starters, the solid food that Christians are to take in includes knowledge...Knowledge of God's self-revelation to us through His Word. Though we are not saved through the Old Testament, it is important that we read it. In it we find the relationship of God to His people unfolding as we read of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, the Judges, kings and prophets. Through this knowledge we are able to see God's plan unfold as Jesus is sent to us at just the right time. Henry The Helicopter was once very important to me and is now a very cool conversation piece. I am a better reader now and its time to move on...

Have a great day....What a wonderful day for a RAK... Love mark Phil. 4:11
