Getting A Boost

"I thank God every time I remember you" (Phil. 1:3).

When one of our kids has a birthday, I am in charge of getting the cards. I always buy two of them..One of them is a funny one and the other is the "gushy" one. I'm not so sure that I don't enjoy sending cards more than receiving them. It is a good feeling to get a card from someone isn't it...Whether it is a birthday, get well or just a note to let you know you are being thought about, it just gives us a warm feeling. Do you have a drawer somewhere in your house that some of these cards are kept. Some are so good or heart-felt that we may have trouble getting rid of them.

The apostle Paul had an interesting pen. When needed, he used it to let some of the churches that he wrote to that they were doing some things that were wrong and needed to correct. At other times, he encouraged them to greater heights. In the letter to the Philippians, the tone is one encouragement, joy and thanks. I make no pretenses that the book of Philippians is my favorite in the Bible. Whenever I need a little "pick-me-up it is the book that I always turn to. There was an obvious love between Paul and this church. Maybe it why I depend on it so much. I think that I would like for someone to write me a letter like this. I certainly cannot write better than Paul, so I would like to use some of his words from chapter one in today's devotional.

"In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy." "It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart." "God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus." "And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that come through Christ Jesus." "Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given to me by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what happened to me will turn out for my deliverance."

Wouldn't you like to either write words like this to someone or receive them? This wonderful epistle is filled with encouraging words...I will share some more with you over the next few days..

Have a great day..Lift someone up with either word or deed... Love mark Phil. 4:11
