The Development Of Hope

"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and work" (2 Thess.2: 16&17).

Do you remember asking for something at Christmas and hoping that you would get it? Who can forget Ralphie's desire for a "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle" in the movie Christmas Story that plays for 24 hours each Christmas? Again, Godly hope is different than worldly hope. If we are to be a people that live with the great hope that we ought to, just how does this hope develop?

Today's verse says that God gave us this good hope through his grace. Since that grace is completely connected to our faith, they both combine that "we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3:7). Hope has its roots in grace. Another way for our hope to grow is through God's Word. The Old Testament and Gospel of Christ continually tell us of our hope. The apostles wrote down what they did that we might fathom the depth of our calling through Jesus Christ.

Through daily Christian living our hope should mature also. Our life experiences, even those that involve hardships should strengthen our resolve and hope. We have the comfort in those down times that only a powerful faith can bring. As our faith grows, so does our hope. Even through the joyous times in our lives our hope grows. The longer we live for Christ, the greater our hope. Finally..."For we through the Spirit, by faith are waiting the hope of righteousness" (Gal. 5:5).Through the Spirit we can with eager anticipation await our hope. God's love that has been poured out for us in Jesus Christ, never leaves and never disappoints. This love is continually infused into us like through an "IV", by the Spirit. Our hope therefore can grow to new heights because of the power of the Holy Spirit abiding in us. More tomorrow about how we can show our hope to others.

Have a wonderful day...It would be a great day for a RAK... Love mark Phil. 4:11
