The Upside

"Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were raised up with Him through faith in the working God, who raised Him up from the dead" (Col. 2:12).

I hope that all of you have survived the Thanksgiving dinner. There was a bit too much food around our home, but it was great being with family. It is good nostalgia to conjure up memories of Thanksgivings past..Hence, my word for the day.....UP...The word "up" engenders positive thoughts, doesn't it. When we are in a good mood, it is said that we are "up." If our frame of mind is not so good, we are encouraged to "cheer up." If we have a busy, productive or fun day ahead, we need to "get up." When our lives have been improved in some way, we have "moved up." Lets face it....In everyday life, the concept of being lifted to a higher place is a good and satisfying thing. In the spiritual part of our lives, in the part of our lives guided by God's Word, "up" is also good.

In today's verse, the apostle Paul has written to the church at Colosse. The "Him" in the verse is Jesus and they are told as are we, how to be raised to another level. "having been buried with Him through baptism, in which you are 'raised up' with Him." The clear and concise picture here is about being raised up to a higher level! Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us at the cross to raise us up to that higher place. In Jesus we have been carried up...Up is good! The same power that God used to raise up Jesus, raises us up through Him. That same power allowed us to shed that old life and be raised up to a new one.

When the old self is behind us and the new person arises, we don't have that old baggage to carry around anymore. In this new life we can bear the fruits of the spirit written about in Galatians chapter five. To refresh our memories, they are; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. On this earth, there is no higher place to be! "Against such things there is no law" (V 23). It is good to allow Jesus to take us to this place...Up is good...

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
