Eating Healthy

"It is written: 'man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God' " (Matt. 4:4).

So much is written these days about eating healthy. Some people have eliminated meat from their diet. Many refuse to eat fried foods. And then there is the talk about sugar and other foods that are designated as "junk foods." Over the years the human race has learned a lot about proper nutrition. We understand the value of vitamins and minerals in our daily regimen. With this in mind, I come to these last thoughts on our spiritual health. "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

The words of the Lord are indeed the words of spiritual life. As much as we strive for physical health, we should strive even more for spiritual well being. "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life" (John 6:63). Jesus is being very straight forward here about our priorities. Our spiritual health is of the utmost importance and we find it in His teachings. I have spoken before about "milk and meat." The young Christian, like a newborn, is nourished by the milk of God's Word. Those words that bring him or her to salvation. As maturation begins, so does the need for more complex nutrients. If we want to grow spiritually, we need to read, study and meditate more on His words of life. To Titus the apostle Paul wrote; "You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine" (2:1).

In the first century church, so many strayed from the apostles teachings. They were often addressed as "false teachers." Instead of teaching what would give their hearers healthy nourishment, they fed them spiritual "junk food." The junk foods in a physical diet give nutrition at a very low level. So it is in the spiritual realm...The growing Christian needs to feast on the Words of Life that bring true spiritual nourishment and health. If we follow God's prescription for spiritual health, we will feel much better, and it will be noticeable to others. They will want the healthy spiritual life style that we have chosen and we will be able to point the way.

Have a great day...Let you light shine for Him... Love mark Phil. 4:11
