Rich Beyond Compare

"This grace was given to me to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Eph.3:8).

I am sure that most of us have gotten beyond thinking that being rich is the key to happiness. These unfathomable riches that the apostle Paul is speaking of however, are of a different ilk. Jesus talked about these riches in two very short parables in Matthew 13. The riches being spoken of here are about the kingdom of heaven. "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field....Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it" (Vs 44 & 45).

So...What are these great riches? There are aspects of these riches that are common to all Christians. There is the joy we have as Jesus promises, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10). In our lives we can have joy and peace. We have the freedom from the guilt of sin through forgiveness. We have been given the Holy Spirit that was promised, and a body of believers with whom we can share, rejoice, weep and comfort. We know the rich feeling involved in our hope for eternal life through Jesus. The list goes on and on and I am sure that you are thinking of some that I have surely left out.

On a more personal level there are those things that are very private to just us. Our prayer life is a private treasure that we have. It is our ability to talk with our Lord, free from all the clutter of the world. A solitary time of one on one, as we let our petitions be known by God. There is God's wonderful Word on which we can meditate. Just knowing that there is a purpose to the time we spend here on earth gives us a dignity that those not in the Lord do not have. A treasure that tells each of us about the true worth of our lives. Paul knew what these unsearchable riches were and who they were for. They were for Jesus' church as it goes on it's earthly mission and for each of us as individuals. It just feels great to be SO RICH!

Have a wonderful beginning to your week...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
