Need A Little Power?

"I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being" (Eph. 3:16).

As a baseball player/coach/ fan, I was a bit taken back by the number of baseballs being hit for home runs during the 90s. We all know about Mark Mc Gwire by now, but there were a lot of other rather nondescript guys hitting long balls. This was the height of the steroid age, and players were getting chemically stronger in order to hit the ball harder and farther. It was all about the power...Power on a couple of different levels. As Christians we have a wonderful power source and its legal and truly useful. It can become the HGH of our spiritual lives. Today's verse suggests to us that the source of this power is "through His Spirit in your inner being."

In another on his epistles Paul wrote; "For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose" (Phil. 2:13). If I am understanding this correctly, this is referring to the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. We should not be surprised, because Jesus promised this to us when He said; "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow within him....By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed on Him would later receive...Up until that time, the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified" (John 7:37-39). And receive it we did!!!!! On the day of Pentecost we read in Acts 2 that Peter exclaimed; "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. AND YOU WILL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" (38 & 39). (the caps are mine)

Although all Christians do not agree exactly how the Spirit dwells within us, we can all come to the conclusion that it does. Today's verse convinces me that it does, and assures me of the reason. That we may be strengthened with its power....in our inner being! Some athletes have taken performance enhancing drugs as an artificial way to get stronger and more powerful. What a wonderful thought it is to have a source of great power available to us. Nothing artificial here...Its the real deal...Better performance as we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit, right down to our inner beings...Tomorrow, some rationale for why we need the power...

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
