"For it is God who works in you to will and act ("work" in NAS) according to His good purpose" (Phil. 2:13).

So...If we are able to channel into the power that God has promised to give us, (Eph. 3:16) what are we supposed to do with it? Why are we getting it? "That He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit." Today's verse suggests two aspects of our lives...."to will and act!" Before today's verse, (13) Paul tells us that we are to "work out our salvation." That's not being sprinkled with some magic dust and hoping for the best...It says WORK! Just about every kind of work that I have done in my life has taken an amount of strength, either mental of physical. If we are to live with our God eternally, we need to work at it, and the coolest thing about that is that He promises us the power to get it done.

Paul writes to the Romans and tells them that they are not to live according to a sinful nature. "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live" (8:13). It takes strength not to succumb to the temptations that are around us. We are "powered by God!" It is only through the strength provided to us by our Lord that we can resist and put to death the misdeeds of the body.

When we become the Lord's children, He has some high expectations of us. Not only are we to put off those misdeeds, but we are to ascend to the next level. "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore, honor God with your body" (1 Cor. 6:19 & 20). It is not enough just to resist, but we are to be in the business of glorifying our God with all that we have. Our bodies are to be an honor to God. The Spirit gives us the power. Finally, today's verse says not only to do but to "will." We need and are promised power to help us in our motivation and hope. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" (Rom. 15:13). (my caps) The strength of will....

Have a wonderful day... Let your light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
