Thoughts on Positivity

"I can do everything through Him who gives me strength" (Phil. 4:13).

How many times in your life have things gone better for you when you approached them with a positive attitude? Conversely, how much fun is it to be around someone who espouses Murphy's law? You know the old quote on which there are several variations, the most prevalent of which says; "whatever can go wrong, will go wrong." The apostle Paul's attitude in today's verse is certainly a positive one. It is a simple statement that can be broken down into two parts...(1). I can do everything....(2). It is Him who gives me that strength...Having a positive attitude is certainly a Biblical principle.

"So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half it's height, for the people worked with all their heart" (NASB says "for the people had a mind to work") Nehemiah 4:6. Upon returning from captivity, it was Nehemiah's job to get the wall around Jerusalem built. The "locals" provided a lot of opposition in the form of chides like; "What are these feeble Jews doing?" ...Will they restore the wall?...Will they offer sacrifices? ..Will they finish the day?.. Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble---burned as they are?" In the face of this opposition we read; "So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul---in fifty two days" (6:15). Why did this happen? It was the fact they maintained a positive attitude! They believed that their God was powerful enough for it to get done!

It is vitally important that we continue to believe in God and in our ability to serve Him. This attitude leads us to try to do what God wants us to do. "Therefore , my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (1 Cor. 15:58). When we stand tall in our "positivity," we are also able to encourage others around us and overcome those who would try to discourage us. With this positive attitude, we can reach the goals that God puts in front of us...

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
