Having a Credo

"Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Anna B. Warner 1860

There are a lot of credos out there and philosophies out there. Some of them are so famous that we may even remember who said them. Do you remember, " I think, therefore I am?" (Cognito, Ergo Sum) This is found in "Discourse on Method" by the French philosopher Rene Descartes. I believe Descartes meant that since he could think, he could prove his existence. This reasoning led him to continue on to the existence of God. Plato said; "You cannot conceive the many without the one." How about this one from St. Augustine; "Unless you believe, you cannot understand." There are so many of these "credos" out there. Some of them can give us a little wisdom to live by, and some may leave us scratching our heads.

In 1860, Anna B. Warner penned the words to the famous children's song, "Jesus Loves Me." (William B. Bradbury put it to music in 1862) It is one of the first songs that I remember singing as a child. The words in the song however, are not just sentiments for children. Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so is for all of us at any age. It may even be a credo, right up there with Cognito, Ergo Sum. Jesus' total life was about His love for us. His teachings reflect how we ought to live our lives. The Good Samaritan...The Prodigal Son...The Pearl of Great Price.....These are all fantastic life lessons for us. The Sermon on the Mount contains wonderful words of life, and who can forget the miracles...

But if we somehow miss it all, lets look at the apostle Paul's words in the Book of Romans. "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, but for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His love for us in this; While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (5: 6-8). He lived His life, did the things He did, and died, just for you and I. "But these words are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you might have life in His name" (John 20:31)....Want a great credo? How about, Jesus loves me, this I know....... "Jesus loves me! He who died...Heaven's gate to open wide;

He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in."

Have a great day....Make a difference..... Love mark Phil. 4:11
