Playing Well With Others

"I have other sheep that are not in this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd" (John 10:16).

Jane is a big tennis fan. She loves to play and watch tennis. Have you ever watched a good doubles match? The team that has the best individual players does not always win. The team that wins most of the time is the one that understands where they ought for each shot in relationship to one another. In other words, the one that plays together the best. It was always Jesus' intention that we "play well" together.More than likely, in today's verse, the sheep that "are not in the pen," are the Gentiles. He was foretelling that in the grand design, there would be one big tent under which all of us would be drawn. As we saw yesterday (John 17:20-23), He prayed to the Father that His believers would be one so that the world would believe that He was from God.

Not only did He foretell and pray for this unity, but He died for it. His death was to "break down the dividing wall of hostility" (Eph 2:14). It was to reconcile all of us into a oneness that could only be found in Him. He saw to it that the Holy Spirit was sent to the apostles and to us. The apostle Paul wrote; "Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace" (Eph. 4:3). Why??? "There is one body and one spirit-----just as you were called to one hope when you were called----one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Vs 4-6).

Through this, the church has many members of His one body. There are people within every congregation with varying talents. God continues to give His church what it needs to function as one. All of the members are like the parts of a car. Though we may think that some parts are more important than others, try driving around in the dead of winter with a window that won't close, or in a rain storm with wipers that won't remove the water. If its going to work the way God intended it to, all of us must pull together in the same direction. It is a one for all, all for one and everyone for God thing! The faithful stay together and bear fruit, and the unfaithful fall by the wayside. Jesus has done His part to make and ensure this unity, but we have an important part to play also...More about that tomorrow....

Have a wonderful day....Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
