Virtue In Action

"But set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity....Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress" (1 Tim. 4: 12 & 15).

A cashier should want to be an excellent cashier...A teacher should want to be an excellent teacher....A doctor ought to strive to be an excellent doctor, just as a food server should want to be the best food server that he or she can be. Our conscience should remind us that in all things that we do, whether permanent or temporary, that we should do it to the best of our ability. In our daily walk with God we need to be striving for excellence....That's what virtue is! It is all about excelling morally in each and everything that we do.

It is of the utmost importance that we are trying to excel in our relationship with the Lord. Listening to Him through His Word, and talking to Him through prayer go a long way toward this excellence. This is our excellent service to God...The next thing you know, we will develop our talents to the extent that they will be used for service in His kingdom. We will use our talents both in service to God and to others. As the apostle Paul told Timothy in today's verses, our progress will be noticed by others. What we have done is added virtue to our faith...By doing this others will know who we are and Whom we represent.

"Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you' (Phil.3:17). In adding virtue to our faith our Christian example will become worthy of other's emulation. We increase our faith and strive for excellence as we attend and participate in Bible classes. There is nothing more gratifying to me than to teach an adult Bible class that students have read and prepared for. I then get become more than a teacher...I also become a facilitator in the spiritual growth of others. "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Heb. 10:24). We strive for excellence when take advantage of the opportunities we have to uplift each other, both through word and deed. This is virtue...We have become a person of virtue....Others know it and so does God...

Have a great day...Let you light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
