Solving The Case

"For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin" (Rom. 6:6).

I remember watching the old detective shows on TV. Near the end of the show, the detectives would finally put all of the clues together and solve the case. Columbo (Peter Falk) would scratch his head, wave his cigar around and act as if he had just had a vision. We can solve the problem of self-control if we put all of the clues together and use the all of the help available. "For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace" (Rom: 6:14). When we become Christians, temptations do not go away, but sin should no longer be able to rule over us. With the help of the Spirit and the Word, self-control is available. We become free to live for God and not for the world.

Jesus wants to rescue us from the bonds of sin. Do you remember the "get out of jail free card" in the game of Monopoly? Outside of Christ we are imprisoned, but through Jesus, we are set free. He is our "get out of jail free" card. He paid the price for us! As Christians we get set free from the dominion that sin has over those not in Him. The battle might not be completely over, but now we see that it can be won! Help in gaining and maintaining self-control is there for us though the Holy Spirit who will be there to guide us down the right paths. If we are willing to walk by the Spirit, the Spirit will not allow us to succumb. Jesus said; "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13). If we are willing to be led by the Spirit, self-control can be ours.

The apostle Paul writes these famous words; "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13). When we allow Him to empower us, the spiritual fruits (one of which is self-control) will be ours. A spirit led life will permit us to control our thoughts (Phil. 4: 8 & 9) and our deeds. To our knowledge we will add self-control...

Have a great day...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
